190812, Is your family tired of mince?

Got to laugh.  I am not a vegetarian but I hardly ever eat meat here in the old Transkei.  Mostly because of my budget and the fact that there is no decent meat available at the appropriate price.  So I’ve become a master cook at umnqusho (the local traditional food – samp and beans).  I do adjust it and give it my own flavour and extra vegetable ingredients of course but it is made pretty much the traditional way.

Anyway.  Back to the mince.  When I do my monthly shopping these days I include a packet or 2 of some lean mince.  It’s rather cheap and you can make it really nice.  So for me it’s pretty much my monthly (or twice monthly) treat of meat.  If I combine it with pasta it lasts for a couple of days but tonight I’m eating it straight – with brinjal and sundried tomato.  Chilli, garlic and apricot jam are some important ingredients.  And I’m finishing the lot.  With a glass or two of red wine.  (A bottle of red wine can last me a month!  So I’m really having a wild night here…)

Just went on to facebook and saw the ad: Is your family tired of mince?  Try this ostrich recipe….or something like that.  And I just thought by myself, how different my life is, and not even to speak of a whole lot of other people for who mince is such a luxury…  Yea, don’t think I’ll get tired of it too soon like if I was eating it every day…

What I really long for is a good decent South African braai.

040812, Give thanks to the Lord for He is good!

I've got flu and wasn't even supposed to go out today.  So thankful for this day and these blessed opportunities...  You deserve all the praise!  (Isn't our God an awesome God?)
